2017 State Championships

With the State Championships done and dusted for another year it's time to reflect again on the wonderful achievement of our Opens and to highlight the courageous effort of our U17's.
As we all know by now the Opens performance to finish in 4th place in Opens Championship Division is truly remarkable. Little 'ole Woopi the 4th best team in the State!! It still seems surreal!
To mix it with the giants of NSW netball and perform so well is testimony to the skill of the teams' brilliant athletes.
Already the North Coast Regional League Champions the next mission for the team is the State Cup in Sydney in September where they will again make us proud.
Flying under the radar though was the sheer guts and determination shown by our U17's team. In the combined 16's/17's age group our Woopi team were largely comprised of bottom age girls which placed them at significant disadvantage.
Add the absolute horror season the team had with injury and illness to the equation and their effort is heightened tenfold. Unable to have the full squad available at any carnival and having the whole squad able to train together just once all season highlights the hurdles the team faced.
Despite this the girls went to State full of optimism but lo and behold the injury horrors surfaced again. With players out for the duration and others playing on despite being clearly busted, in true Woopi fashion the girls never once gave up and played their hearts out in every game to finish equal 16th in Div 3.
Our President remarked that she was so emotional watching the girls soldier on and on and continue to wear the Woopi Green with such pride. A fabulous 10 goal victory over 12th placed Grafton before disaster struck paints a way clearer picture of the teams true ability.
As usual both of our teams displayed magnificent sportsmanship and as an association we could not ask for better ambassadors. Well done Woopi girls!!!
